Bright Pink/Fab Fest 2012

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has announced it will no longer give grants to provide breast exams and mammograms through Planned Parenthood affiliates. There is one word to describe this: disgusting.

Through my breast cancer journey, I have come across several non-profit organizations with one in particular I really liked: the Bright Pink organization (ironic, huh?)

Bright Pink is a national non-profit organization that provides education and support to young women who are at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer. They arm young women with knowledge, options and a great attitude, and offer companionship and empathy during their journey. They empower women like me to take control of their breast and ovarian health and in turn, grant us the freedom and peace of mind to live a beautiful and fulfilling life.

I registered for the Pinkpal One-On-One program which provides one-on-one peer support to young women who are at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Each “Participant” is paired with a “PinkPal” who provides the individual with positive support and encouragement as a fellow high-risk individual, uniquely familiar with her personal journey. I was paired with Lauren, who has truly helped inspire and encourage me on my journey as she’s been down that same journey before. Lauren lives in New York but is always a phone call away when I need to chat with a survivor.

Through my journey, I’ve tried to keep my eye on the big picture, but smaller, short term goals have helped me get through my darkest days. I recently came across one such short term goal through this organization: Fab Fest 2012.

Fab Fest 2012 will be held April 15, 2012 at the Four Seasons in Chicago and will be featuring Guiliana Rancic. I have ALWAYS wanted to visit Chicago and this opportunity couldn’t have presented itself at a better time considering I will be done recuperating from my double mastectomy (February 16th) and will most likely just be starting radiation. My best friend, Maria, is flying to Chicago to meet me there and join me for a fun day of pampering!!

This ultimate girl’s day out spotlights a 360-degree approach to cultivating a more fabulous ME. From fitness to beauty and inspiration, the event taps into all the elements that make me feel fabulous, from the inside out. Bringing together young women in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, Fab-Fest is a day full of healthy activities sparking a recommitment to healthy behaviors and wellness goals in 2012 and beyond. The experience is mission-infused from start to finish and will raise important funds for Bright Pink’s educational and support programming nationwide.

Fab-Fest 2012 encourages me to build my own adventure. I will get to choose from a series of action-packed, high-energy classes taught by some of Chicago's most sought after instructors. In between classes, young women from the Bright Pink community will share their stories and the impact Bright Pink has had on their lives.

If I’m feeling more style than sweat, I can take advantage of fashion and beauty consultations, massage, manicures, goal-setting workshops, health education and energy-boosting food. Fab-Fest wants young women to look and feel their best and has therefore built a day centered on helping me achieve this.

In order to participate for this event, Maria and I need to each individually raise a minimum of $500.00 (total $1,000.00). I would love your support in not only helping me to raise vital funds, but to help spread the word so I can reach my goal!

Please visit our pages and consider making a donation. If you aren't able to commit to donating today, please share my page through Facebook and email, to help spread the word about this incredible cause. And, if you're feeling especially generous with your time, perhaps you could even send an e-mail to some of your contacts with a link to my page.

My page is:

Maria's page is:

Neither of us keep any of the money and remember, each of us need to raise $500.00 to attend the event so if my page reaches $500.00, please consider donating on Maria's page so she can reach $500.00 too.

This is a cause I care about and anything you can do in support is genuinely appreciated. Maria and I both thank you in advance and we are so excited to raise money for a great cause, all the while getting together for a much needed worry-free, pampering filled weekend!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
